I started this model replica project in October 2013 and put the final finishing touches on it in late November 2014. This iconic state-of-the-art performing arts center was built in 1958 and graces the campus of the Culver Academies, a private secondary boarding school located on the north shore of Lake Maxinkuckee in northern Indiana. The Eugene C. Eppley Auditorium/Steinbrenner Performing Arts Center has been host to some of America's most recognizable theatrical, musical, literary, political and entertainment figures.
Extremely detailed and made entirely of pine and poplar woods, the model's windows, doors, exterior brick siding and carved stone architectural details are photos of the actual building. The auditorium and foyer roof section lifts off to reveal two individual large interior storage compartments. There are four additional smaller compartments.
I built the Eppley/Steinbrenner keepsake box model replica as a loving tribute to my wife, Cathy, who has taught dance and choreographed countless dance performances in this building for nearly four decades. She is currently chair of the Academy's Fine Arts Department.
